Athens Library Hosts Opening for Free Tool Library

Athens Regional Library

Members of the community are invited to the opening of the ACC Tool Library this afternoon from 2 to 4 pm at the Athens Library. The Tool Library provides a variety of tools to be checked out by patrons. There is an online catalog to see what tools are currently available and to place a reservation.

Those attending will have a one-time opportunity to check out tools without a reservation.

Public Information Officer Rhiannon Eades says the tool library is just one of many items and services available at the facility.

“We’ll have an event set up in our lobby where you can see what we have and check out some tools to use,” Eades said. “You might need a tool for a job but maybe you don’t want to buy that tool because you may only need it a couple of times. This is great service for the community.”

Eades says the Tool Library is just one of many items and services available at the facility.

“This is just the latest thing that we have of things you can check out that aren’t books,” according to Eades. “We have a whole collection called the shareables library of things and those are things like ukuleles, hand drums, we have frame looms you can check out, jewelry kits, all kinds of things. So you can try a hobby before you buy the equipment for it.

The Tool Library was created by L.E.A.D. Athens. Those wanting to check out tools must have a library card and their account must be in good standing. This afternoon’s opening is free and open to the public. The ACC library is opening a tool library Friday from 2 to 4 pm.
