Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement to Offer Free Rides to Polls

Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement

Athenians needing a ride to the polls for early voting are invited to join volunteers with the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement at others this weekend.

The AADM is offering free rides to and from polls as part of its Get on the Bus Voting Tour. The rides are for early voting on Saturday, October 27th from 9:30 am until 3 pm, as well as Friday, November 2nd from 12 noon to 5 pm.

Co-founder and President Mokah Jasmine Johnson says the group effort is a way to draw attention to the importance of voting and to inspire individuals to vote.

“We’re trying to encourage those people that are already registered and traditionally don’t participate to just go ahead and participate and not to let transportation hinder them or the current things that are happening right now,” Johnson said. “Don’t let it [current events] discourage them and it’s a fun way to do it together and still be involved and we just want to play our part in the process because we know it’s very important.”

She says they are reaching out to every segment of the community.

“We’re going to the community centers, we’re reaching out to nursing homes, we’re reaching out to schools and anybody that wants to vote together or just need a ride, give us a call.”

For rides call 706 389-4129.

Those needing rides can also visit the website at AADMovement.ORG to register.
