2018 Holiday Budgets by City

WalletHub

If you’re still searching for the perfect Christmas gifts, you might want to head out to stores. Today is the best day to go Christmas shopping. According to Business Insider, December 13th is the least-crowed day for stores during the holiday shopping season. The National Retail Federation predicts the average per-person tab will be just over $1,000.

The personal finance website WalletHub has created a budget for residents of various cities across the country. Analyst Jill Gonzalez tells us how much Athenians should dole out for gifts.

"Athens, out of the 570 cities that we looked at, ranked down at 529 in terms of a holiday budget. That equals around $406 this year, so that’s the suggested budget that the average person in Athens can spend this year.”

Gonzalez says they studied several factors.

“We’ve calculated this at the city level by looking at the average income, age, debt-to-income ratios, savings-to-monthly-expenses ratio for essentially the city as a whole,” according to Gonzalez. “If you think that your income might look a little different, if you know that you have more savings or if you know that you have more debt, it’s good to figure this out for your own.”

Flower Mound, Texas has the highest budget at more than $2761.
