Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Clarke County Jail.
According to a media release from the Clarke Sheriff’s Office, yesterday morning, George Jones, a male being housed in general population at the facility, collapsed in his cell.
Jail security and medical staff immediately began to render medical treatment at the scene, but Jones remained unresponsive. EMS was contacted and Jones was taken to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:45 am.
No further information will be released at this time, pending investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
