Clarke County Board of Education Budget Hearings/Tax Increase Meetings

The Clarke County Board of Education is holding a series of budget hearings for the fiscal year 2020 budget. The $164,699,956 measure is based on keeping the current millage rate of 20 mills. Since there is an expected increase in property taxes for 2019, collections will increase by 1.378 mills.

The proposed tax increase for a home with fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $96.46, and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with fair market value of $250,000 is approximately $137.80.

The tax increase meetings will be held in conjunction with the district budget meetings. Members of the community attending the meetings will have a chance to ask questions and provide comments.

The meetings are Tuesday, May 28th at Alps Road Elementary at 205 Alps Road, Thursday, May 30th at Gaines Elementary School at 900 Gaines School Road, and Tuesday, June 4th at the H.T. Edwards building on Dearing Extension.

All budget hearings will take place from 5:30 to 6 pm and the Tax Increase meetings will follow from 6 to 7 pm.

The Board is scheduled to give final approval to the proposed budget and millage rate at a board meeting June 13 at 6 p.m. at the CCSD Administrative Offices, located at HT Edwards, 400-1 Dearing Extension.
