Attendees Return for Second Meeting of Mueller Series

Gemma DiCarlo

Over 55 community members turned out on Sunday, June 23, for the second meeting of the Mueller Report Community Discussion Series, hosted by WUGA and the Athens-Clarke County Library.

The discussion covered the Russian government’s connections with the Trump campaign, most notably through Carter Page and George Papadopoulos. Participants broke into groups and talked about the reading before electing one member to speak for the group.

Elizabeth Bishop-Martin, who attended the event for the second time on Sunday, said that the small groups helped attendees understand the report better than at the first meeting.

“I think people are more engaged in the report because we have some direction as to what to read,” Bishop-Martin said.

Ann Darby also attended the for the second time on Sunday.

“What I take from this is that we have a highly engaged community with really wise folks in it who are reading this deeply and carefully, and we’re learning from each other,” Darby said.

The six-part series is meant to facilitate the reading and discussion of the Mueller Report so that citizens can come to their own conclusions about the historic document.

“It is complicated reading and this kind of discussion helps people understand,” Darby said. “If we’re going to move forward as a country, we have got to get through this period with intelligence.”

The next meeting will be held on Sunday, June 30, at 3 p.m. at the ACC library. Participants can join the series at any time and are strongly encouraged to read the scheduled section before attending.
