Extra Special People is nearing the end of its fundraising effort to build an area Miracle League complex. The facility, which will be located at Harris Shoals Park, will feature a playground, splash pad, and fully-accessible baseball field for children of all abilities.
Laura Whitaker is Executive Director of ESP. She says the Amerigroup Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Anthem Insurance, will completely fund the first two years of operations once complete.
“What Amerigroup has done is they have committed to donating the first two years of operation for our Miracle League,” Whitaker said. “They’re all about the promotion of health and wellness so they are really excited about the inclusivity part of the Miracle League and want to help us with things like the bats and the balls and the equipment and the staff that it’s going to take us to help us run our Miracle League.”
ESP is only abour$100K away from the goal of $1.4 million needed for the complex.
