Athens Brothers Arrested in Connection with Oconee County Murder

Oconee County Sheriff's Office

Two Athens teens have been arrested in connection with a murder in Oconee County.

Sheriff Scott Berry has announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with the murder of Joseph Jackson earlier this month. Brothers 18-year old Akhemu Dunston and 19-year old Quentin Dunston are in custody.

According to a post on the sheriff office’s Facebook page, additional arrests are expected.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, University of Georgia Police spotted a vehicle related to the investigation at the State Botanical Garden.

They issued an emergency alert. The suspect was not in the vehicle, and authorities say there is no reason to believe the suspect is on campus.

The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time due to sheriff’s investigators and several task forces actively working the case. The sheriff’s office says releasing the identity at this time would hamper those efforts.
