A day after the University of Georgia announced it was moving to online classes for the remainder of the Spring semester, the administration has announced Spring Commencement is also cancelled. A statement from President Jere Morehead says the move is in keeping with directives from the state and federal government to suspend large events and promote social distancing.

UGA is working with the University System of Georgia, authorities and health officials to combat the transmission of COVID-19.

All public events for the remainder of the semester have been cancelled. They include athlethic events, performances, student activities, Honors Week activities and more. Students will still be able to graduate, but both the undergraduate and graduate ceremonies scheduled for May 8, 2020 are cancelled.

In the statement, Morehead said the top priority in these uncertain times remains the health, safety and wellbeing of all members of the campus community.
