Jittery Joe's Donating Portion of Proceeds to Nuçi's Space Fund

Athens fixture Jittery Joe’s Coffee is teaming up with Uber Eats and a local nonprofit to help area artists and musicians.

The company placed several cans of coffee on Uber Eats and anytime someone orders a can, Jittery Joe’s donates a dollar to the Garrie Vereen Memorial Emergency Relief Fund at Nuci’s Space.

“When those people lose their jobs, and the vast majority of our people are on unemployment or partial unemployment right now, you can really see the impact in their lives," according to Bob Googe, one of the owners. "And so we thought, other than the things that the state is doing through the partial unemployment, what can we do to help those folks above and beyond that?”

He explains why they do it.

“You’re just supposed to, that’s just what someone who is involved in the community is supposed to do.”

The fund also supports crew, venue, bar employees and others in the Athens entertainment industry.

Googe says musicians, artists and other creatives are often among the hardest during difficult economic times and that’s especially true during the pandemic.

“When something like the COVID-19 hits everybody suffers, but some of the first people to really get hit hard are a lot of the artists in town. Many of them work for places like Jittery Joes as servers during the day so they can pursue their art in the evening, or servers in the evening so they can pursue their art during the day.”

Jittery Joe’s recently made the ‘Create’ blend. A portion of those proceeds supports AthFest Educates.
