Athens Area Homeless Shelter Holds Virtual Silent Auction

Athens Area Homeless Shelter Facebook

The Athens Area Homeless Shelter is holding an online silent auction and raffle to raise money in support of the shelter’s services.

Shea Post is the Executive Director of the nonprofit.

“The community has always supported us, and taken care of us, and supported all of our programs, and we did not want to tax the community during such a difficult year and we haven’t done any asking at all up until this point. We’ve kept our doors open all year, we haven't shut down our services at all, in fact, we've opened our doors wider, we've served more people than ever before during the pandemic.”

The virtual events are being held instead of the annual, in-person, Harvest for the Homeless fundraising event. Prizes include a rare, signed R.E.M. poster, artwork, private tastings and dinners, and a brewing experience at Southern Brewing Company, among others.

“We tried to focus on experiences this year, and it’s not just an auction, we also have our annual Culinary Catchall Raffel, which is we solicit gift certificates to local restaurants. The grand prize is 52 gift cards to local restaurants, so you can eat out, have a meal out every week for a year.”

The Harvest Silent Auction begins today and ends Friday, November 6th at 11:59 pm.
