New COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination Drive-Thru in Athens

Curtis Compton/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP

Georgia expanded the list of those who qualify for COVID-19 vaccinations beginning this week.

As a result of that expansion people age 65 and older, along with first responders-including law enforcement-are eligible to receive the vaccine.

In order to meet the increased demand, the Northeast Health District is opening an appointment based, combination COVID-19 testing and vaccination drive-through in Athens. The new site is located at 355 Oneta Street. Former sites on Mitchell Bridge Road and the Winterville Center for Community and Culture are now closed.

The vaccine was previously limited to healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities.  Both testing and vaccination will be provided free of charge at the new site, but appointments are required. To make an appointment for either testing or vaccination, visitPublicHealthAthens.com or call 706-340-0996.

Priority will be given to those who live or work in the Northeast Health District, which includes the following counties: Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton.
