Firefly Trail Race Series Kicks Off

Anika Chaturvedi

The Firefly Trail is kicking off this year’s edition of the Fire Trail Race Series with the Snowflake 10K. The event is normally held in Winterville, but due to pandemic concerns, it’s going virtual. John Kissane is Trail Development Coordinator.

"This is the second edition of the race series. It was quite successful last year, and it will enable entrants to complete a 10K on their own on any dates between January 23rd and January 30th. They'll submit their time and then there will be awards."

The series of four races benefits the Firefly Trail, which once complete, will cover 39 miles from Athens to Union Point. The other races are the Maxey’s Model Mile 5K, Crawford Restoration Run, and the Union Point Junction Jamboree.

"So it will provide recreational opportunities and also active transportation. We also are quite confident that Firefly Trail will provide some economic benefit to various communities along the trail."

Participants have until midnight January 30th to register for the four-race series and receive a discount. For more information, or to register, visit www.fireflytrail.com, or www.active.com, or email classicraceservices@gmail.com.
