Data from the Georgia Department of Labor show that the unemployment rate in both Athens and Northeast Georgia – two separate metrics – fell by just under one-half of one percent in March. The Labor Department says that at the end of March, Athens had about 92,400 jobs – 500 more than the previous month, but 4,500 fewer than March of last year.
Unemployment claims in Athens were up by 29 percent from February, but are still significantly lower than they were one year ago.
Employ Georgia dot com, the GDOL’s online job listing service showed about 2,800 active job postings in Athens and 7,400 active postings in the Northeast Georgia region for March.
