Former UGA coach says he has Parkinson's

Former UGA football coach Mark Richt has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

Richt, who spent three years at Miami after a 15-year tenure at Georgia, retired in 2018 with a 171-64 record and joined the ACC Network.

Parkinson's is a brain disorder that can cause shaking and trouble with balance and coordination. Symptoms usually begin mild and get progressively worse over time. Richt and his wife Katharyn recently moved back to Athens after living in Florida for several years.

Jeff has delivered morning news at WUGA Radio for more than a decade. He was among a team at CNN that won a George Foster Peabody Award in 1991 for an educational product based on the fall of the Soviet Union. He also won an Edward R. Murrow Award from Radio Television Digital News Association in 2007 for producing a series for WSB Radio on financial scams. Jeff is a graduate of the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University (MBA) and holds a BS in Business Administration from Campbell University, both in North Carolina.
