Public Hearings for Oconee County Millage Rate Scheduled

The Oconee County Board of Education will hold a series of public hearings on the millage rate, starting July 19.

The millage rate is tentatively set at 16.5 mills—the same as last year—by the Oconee County Schools fiscal year 2022 budget. Although the millage rate is set to stay the same, since property values have increased in Oconee County over the last year, the board of education is required to advertise the millage rate as a property tax increase.

The recently approved budget receives revenue from state funding and the local tax digest. The budget includes, among other things, a $1/hour wage increase for bus drivers, custodians, and school nutrition staff and money for technology costs.

The public hearings, which are required by Georgia law and open to all citizens, will be held on July 19 at 9am and 5:30 pm, as well as July 26 at 6pm.
