CCSD buses resources into community

Shoes and socks were a popular item among parents at the Hallmark Mobile Home Park on Thursday.

“Sometimes the money we don’t have to buy clothes and stuff for the grandchildren, so this is a blessing, this comes in handy for the grandchildren,” community member Keith Howler Sr. said.

Members of the district’s Family and Community Engagement department also brought grocery boxes to address food insecurity in the district, along with information to prepare parents for school registration.

City of Refuge, a local nonprofit ministry that serves families in crisis, helped the CCSD team keep their resources stocked at every stop.

“It’s so many hardships these days, anything is better than nothing,” community member Sakaya Ware said.

“It’s a blessing by the good Lord to have these, and I’m grateful,” Howler Sr. said.

The pop-up also provided an opportunity for community members to connect with those working to support them.

“I feel like it’s bringing the community together. It’s feeding the community, there’s a lot of parents out here that are struggling, going through things,” Ware said.

The bus will visit the Stonehenge and Garnett Ridge neighborhoods on Friday.
