Habersham County Jailer recovering from inmate assault

Georgia Historical Society

A Habersham County jailer is recovering after officials say he was knocked unconscious by an inmate at the Habersham County Detention Center. Sheriff’s officials say around 7pm Thursday, the jailer was in the men’s block opening doors for the inmates who were being allowed out of their cells.

Inmate Mark Edward Roberts of Cornelia allegedly ran down some stairs and knocked out the jailer who was briefly hospitalized. Roberts was charged with aggravated battery and felony obstruction.
