Some Athens area school systems perform above the state average

While Clarke County schools’ graduation rate sat below the state’s average, many area counties had graduation rates that performed above the state’s average of 84.4%.

The Georgia Department of Education released the 2023 four-year graduation rates for all Georgia high schools and school systems on Tuesday.

Oconee County led the surrounding counties with a graduation rate of 96.8%, followed by Oglethorpe County with 95.8%, Jackson County with 94.7%, Madison County with 92.7% and Barrow County with 91.5%.

However, Clarke County’s graduation rate remained below the state’s average, with a 75.4% graduation rate. Clarke Central High School’s graduation rate was 80.1%. Cedar Shoals High School’s graduation rate was disproportionately lower than Clarke Central’s at 69.5%.
