School Closures due to Hurricane Helene

  • The University of Georgia - closed main campus on Thurs., Sept. 26 and Fri., Sept. 27
  • UGA Gwinett campus - closed on Thursday, September 26th, and Friday, September 27th. All classes, operations, and events are canceled. Please monitor the UGA Gwinnett social channels, website, and email for updates.
  • Athens Academy - will be closing as normal at 3:20pm Thursday, September 26. All afterschool activities for Thursday — including Extended Day, athletic practices, and play rehearsals — are cancelled. The school will be closed Friday, September 27 and plans to reopen as normal Monday. Homecoming events, including the parade, pep rally, and football game, will be postponed to a later date.
  • Athens Technical College - closed on Thurs., Sept. 26 & Fri., Sept. 27.
  • Barrow County Schools - all BCSS schools are closed and after-school activities are canceled for Friday, Sept. 27. After-school activities are also canceled for Thursday, Sept. 26. Updates will be posted on their website.
  • The Clarke County School District - will operate on a normal schedule for Thursday, September 26. All after-school activities — including after-school programs, sporting events/practices, etc. for Thursday are cancelled. School for Friday, September 27, including all after school activities, has been cancelled.
  • Double Helix STEAM School - will operate on a regular schedule Thursday, September 26. School will be closed Friday, September 27.
  • Jackson County Schools - will hold normal operations on Thursday, September 26. All after school activities are cancelled. JCSS will be closed on Friday, September 27. All extracurricular activities for Friday are postponed. Friday night's football games will be held Saturday at 12 pm. Saturday's JCHS Homecoming Dance will be held as planned.
  • Madison County Schools - will operate on an early release schedule for Thursday, September 26, dismissing at 12:30pm. All After School Programs and extracurricular activities are cancelled. the school system will be closed, Friday, September 27. No staff should report. A decision about Friday night's home football game has not been made at this time.
  • Oconee County Schools - closed on Friday, Sept. 27, and all extracurricular activities have been cancelled, per the recommendation of Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Oconee County Schools will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday, Sept. 26, but extracurricular activities will not take place due to Hurricane Helene.
  • Oglethorpe County Schools - will be operating on a regular schedule Thursday, September 26, but will be closed on Friday, September 17. All after-school activities including ASPIRE have been cancelled for Thursday.
  • The University of North Georgia - all campuses closed on Thurs., Sept. 26 and Fri., Sept. 27
