School resource officer program expands in Oconee County

Five schools in Oconee County have been assigned officers under a school resource officer program for Oconee County schools.

Oconee County Observations reports two officers were assigned to the county’s two high schools shortly after the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County last September. Now, officers have been assigned to the county’s three middle schools. That leaves seven elementary schools without officers.

Kevin Yancey, who’s the Director of Student Services for the system, says Sheriff James Hale is continue to recruit deputies for the SRO position.
