Artificial Intelligence is helping The University of Georgia’s Office of Admissions process transfer student transcripts faster.

As the number of transfer student applicants is increasing, The University of Georgia’s Office of Admissions is using new, artificial intelligence tools to make the process quicker for both parties.

Admissions plans to have an AI chatbot platform for students to use, to see their progress before starting an application or as they wait for their transcript to transfer between college institutions.

This chatbot will be a part of UGA’s Transfer Equivalency Search to help students upload their own course information and see how it compares to UGA.

According to Senior Associate Director of Admissions Seth Filkins, UGA receives 25,000 transcripts with hundreds of thousands of courses to translate each year. Since March, admissions has been using an AI program, intelligent character recognition and machine learning, to scan transcripts and transcript data into UGA’s student information system, which has made the process twice as fast.

The AI tools being used and being planned to use will not review any other application materials, like essays and letters of recommendation.
