We’ve passed another period of holiday travel but gas prices remain steady.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in the greater Athens area is $2.90 a gallon, basically unchanged from a month ago but down 34 cents a gallon from a year ago. And nationwide, gas is also holding steady averaging $3.15 a gallon.

Triple A estimates 61.6 million Americans were expected to drive over the holiday. Sunday was expected to be the peak day for air travel with 2.9 million passengers in the air and nearly 377,000 of those passing through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and a total of 5.84 million flying to their destinations during the holiday period.
