Georgia drivers are one step closer to seeing lower prices at the pump. The State Senate has voted to suspend the gas tax, a day after their counterparts in the House sanctioned the move.

House Bill 1199 successfully passed through the Georgia House of Representatives March 18th. The bill would suspend the state’s motor fuel tax for 60 days if it can also pass through the state’s senate.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in the greater Athens area is $2.90 a gallon, basically unchanged from a month ago but down 34 cents a gallon from a year ago.
