A special election will take place in Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties on December 9 to fill the Georgia House seat for District 121.

The seat was previously held by Republican Representative Marcus Weidower who resigned unexpectedly to focus on his role at the real estate development firm Hillpointe.

As it stands, only one candidate has announced they are running in the special election. Local Democrat Eric Gisler, who lost to Weidower in 2018, already had plans to run again.

The last day to request an absentee ballot will be November 26th.

Gisler is a University of Georgia Alum. His campaign prioritizes healthcare access, quality schools, and affordable housing.

Alexzundra Tillman is a part-time reporter and producer. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in Film and Television studies at UGA and hopes to work at the cross section of these two fields in the future.
