We previously reported that the Athens-Clarke County Government is seeking to purchase pieces of Paul Bunce’s property for the Firefly Trail.

The county has said it would purchase needed property for market value but did not specify how. WUGA recently received documents showing that the county is seeking to buy easements on the needed land.

County officials have confirmed they would like to purchase easements that would allow the county the right to use the land for the trail while the Bunces remain the owners. The county says that by purchasing easements, they can avoid “complexities” like lot coverage requirements and setbacks. Paul Bunce sat down to discuss his position on the sale of easements on his land.
