The University of Georgia has created a scholarship initiative to recruit students and support them by reducing the amount of student loan debt.
To attract students regardless of their circumstances or background, the University of Georgia launched a scholarship initiative to increase access to higher education. Within each UGA school, donors will have the chance to support funding in areas such as need-based, merit-based, graduate/professional, and experiential learning scholarships.
Jere Morehead, President of the University of Georgia, believes that this initiative can provide more access to students. “By supporting this transformational scholarship initiative, donors are giving more students access to our unparalleled learning environment,” Morehead said.
Even with the impact of Hope and Zell Miller scholarships available to Georgia residents, there are still gaps in covering the cost of college. On average, 30% of UGA undergraduate students graduate with about $19,000 in student loan debt.
As higher levels of education become more competitive, the university states that it's committed to educating and graduating students while also reducing student loan debt across income levels.
