Candidate for District 5 commissioner Zander Mason held a campaign kickoff event Tuesday night.

Financial advisor and political hopeful Zander Mason is running to represent the district on Athens' westside. During the campaign kickoff, Mason focused on his goal of supporting youth.

“Strong communities are built on a strong youth coming up, and if you want to prevent problems in the future, it’s really important that you educate and set your youth up to be successful,” he said.

Mason said if elected, he would expand after school programs and mentorship opportunities. He also highlighted community safety, homelessness, and economic development as top priorities.
