A candidate officially makes their announcement to fill the seat in Clarke County School District 7 (CCSD).
Adam Shirley revealed that he is running for the Clarke County Board of Education, District 7 seat. The position is currently filled by LaKeisha Gantt, whose term will end in December.
Shirley's areas of interest include expanding pre-K access to every three- and four-year-old in Athens, fighting for state and federal policies that provide support to CCSD students, families, and employees, and fostering a district-wide culture that respects the autonomy of teachers and administrators as educational professionals.
Shirley has worked in public education for 18 years, including four years with CCSD. He has served as a tutor, substitute teacher, and paraprofessional, and has spent 14 years teaching seventh- and eighth-grade science.
Since 2018, Shirley has served on the SPLOST 2020 Citizens Advisory and Oversight Committees. He also served as a board member on the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections and Registration from 2021 through 2025.
“CCSD has made some great strides recently, but there’s still a lot of work left to do. I’m ready to be part of the team that builds on that success and prepares our students with a world-class education,” Shirley said.
