Legion pool to become sand volleyball courts

rendering of a proposed park redevelopment.
UGA Today
Updated plans for the Legion Field redevelopment add four volleyball courts, expanding student recreation and preserving space for outdoor gathering in the heart of campus.

UGA’s compromise to Legion pool is less parking spots then previously proposed and an alternative summer sport facility.

The University of Georgia is moving forward with the demolition of Legion Pool and in its place there will be four sand volleyball courts. The field will be considered a “backyard gathering space” for students according to the University.

The pivot to sand volleyball courts was approved by the University System of Georgia, and Governor Brian Kemp has signed off on the demolition order. Construction is set to begin this spring and be completed in the fall.

UGA is the only institution in the SEC without sand volleyball courts. The upcoming addition has gotten a positive response from the Beach Volleyball club on campus.

Alexzundra Tillman is a part-time reporter and producer. She is currently pursuing her masters degree in Film and Television studies at UGA and hopes to work at the cross section of these two fields in the future.
