A candidate for the Georgia gubernatorial race announced Thursday that she is ending her campaign.

Georgia State Rep. Ruwa Romman, a Democrat from Forsyth County, confirmed via social media that she is ending her run for governor. Instead, she wants to use the momentum of her campaign to run for the State Senate District 7 seat in Gwinnett County.

Romman says she dropped the race because of funding issues. She also alleged that “dark money” will support one of her opponents. “Dark money” is spending from outside groups that don’t disclose their donors and is used to sway voters in an election.

Despite Romman dropping the race, both the Republican and Democratic primaries on May 19 are still crowded, with 14 candidates in total.

Voters can request an absentee ballot for the 2026 primary elections starting Monday, March 2. For more information, visit georgia.gov/vote-absentee-ballot.
