The Sphinx Virtuosi performed for a full house of Clarke County School District students in February at the Performing Arts Center at UGA.

The month of February is Black History Month, dedicated to defining and celebrating the achievements of African Americans in the US. This Black History Month, a string ensemble made up of musicians of color called Sphinx Virtuosi visited Athens. As WUGA’s Emma Auer heard, perhaps the ensemble’s most excited audience members in Athens were the city’s youth.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
