Man laying on railroad tracks stuck by train

An investigation has been opened after a man was struck by a train Monday, March 16th.

At 11:59 a.m., the Barrow County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a train versus pedestrian accident. The individual, who was identified to be Johnny Ray Gooch, was struck by a train that was not able to stop in time.

According to the train conductor, Gooch was seen lying on the railroad tracks as the train approached, but the train was not able to avoid him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Gooch was 67 years old.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident.
