Community members gather outside the Jon and Virginia Appleton Auditorium before the Athens mayoral debate on April 13th, 2026.

10 local environmental organizations are hosting a forum on energy and the environment with all five mayoral candidates.

Athens has seen a long string of mayoral debates this election season, though this forum is unique in that it will focus on one topic: the environment.

The forum will be moderated by Olivia Asher, a member of the Coalition for Athens Scientists. Candidates will answer questions about environmental justice, climate resilience, clean and renewable energy, transportation and data centers.

Candidates for the Athens-Clarke County Commission also have the opportunity to respond to the questions ahead of the event via a questionnaire. Their responses will be made public the day of the forum.

The mayoral forum will be held at the ACC Library on Monday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. To RSVP to the event, visit tinyurl.com/athcanfor.
