Athens mayoral candidate Mara Zuniga had high praise for her supporters and volunteers on Election Day. Zuniga said in addition to financial support, she had an army of volunteers who were committed and up for the task.

“First, they rock,” Zuniga said. “They rock because they’re just awesome people. They’re independent people. They did their research; it wasn’t that I just won them over because. Actually, these were folk that a lot of them were researching. When they were asking the questions, they were open to listen to me. So, I would say they rock because they were open to listen, you know, they were there to ask questions. They were ready to vote for a change, but they wanted to know that they were going to support the right candidate.”

Zuniga is one of five candidates who were vying for the seat of the next mayor of Athens-Clarke County, to replace term-limited Mayor Kelly Girtz.
