Millions of Georgians voted in the primary and nonpartisan general election held on May 19th. While many contests were decided on election night, other key races will advance to a runoff election in June—including the Republican candidate for Georgia’s next governor.

Dr. Jeffrey Glas is a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Georgia. He sat down with WUGA’s Emma Auer to discuss the election results: what surprised him, and what he’ll pay attention to as races advance to runoffs this summer.

Emma Auer is an award-winning reporter who joined WUGA as a full-time producer in 2024. She is also a graduate student in UGA's Romance Languages Department, studying French and Spanish. She covers the breadth of Northeast Georgia stories, from Athens City Hall to Winterville farmers' markets. Emma's work has also been heard on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
