New Athens-Clarke County deputy manager appointed

Andrew Saunders has been appointed deputy manager in the Athens-Clarke County Manager’s Office.

Saunders had been serving as the interim assistant manager since July 2024. Bob Cowell, the Athens-Clarke County manager, made the appointment.

Saunders has almost 20 years of experience working with the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. He previously held positions in the Central Services Department, the Housing and Community Development Department and the Sustainability Office.

Saunders has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. He is also a Certified Public Manager through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

Saunders will officially begin serving as deputy manager June 8.

Maura Potvin is a senior journalism major at the University of Georgia. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a master's degree in Emerging Media from UGA and hopes to work in the news industry and continue to share her passion for storytelling.
