Clarke County's high school seniors are learning financial literacy and graduating with the assets they earn.
The inaugural Gifted Savings program has proved successful as nearly 650 Clarke County School students graduate with investment portfolios.
Through the Gifted Savings program, high school seniors on track to graduate were each given a real $1,000 investment portfolio at the start of the school year. The program teaches financial literacy and provides a portfolio of assets to monitor and learn from.
After successfully completing the program and turning 18, the students get to take full control of the portfolios that they’ve worked on. Students can choose to reinvest their assets or cash them out.
This is the first program of its kind in the nation and includes three high schools from Clarke County: Cedar Shoals, Clarke Central, and Classic City High School.
CCSD’s presumptive superintendent, Dr. Jennifer Scott, says that the district is excited to welcome in the next class of seniors and continue the program at the start of the next school year.
