The dean of UGA’s Graduate school will be stepping into the role of Provost.

The University of Georgia has named Dr. Ron Walcott as the interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs as the search for a permanent replacement commences.

Dr. Ron Walcott is stepping in for the previous provost, Dr. Benjamin Ayers, who was recently named President of Clemson University.

Dr. Walcott has been with UGA for nearly 30 years. For the past five plus years, Dr. Walcott has acted as UGA’s first Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School.

UGA has seen a 20% increase in graduate enrollment and an 82% increase in the number of scholarships and fellowships designated for graduate students while Walcott has served as Vice Provost.

UGA President Jere Morehead says that Dr. Walcott is a respected campus leader and he looks forward to working with him in the coming weeks. Dr. Walcott will step into the interim position on August 1st.
