ICE spotted in Athens over the weekend

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Officers arrested 271 criminal aliens last week in an enforcement action targeting individuals who pose a threat to public safety and immigration violations. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers made the arrests across the state of Florida, Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands.

Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition and several other local citizens have posted online about seeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Athens.

The Athens Police Department and Sheriff's Department have yet to confirm if ICE gave them a heads up before conducting investigations in the city.

The Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition along with other local human rights agencies are collecting donations to help families affected by the ongoing detentions by ICE.

Through the AIRC, donations go to The Support For Immigrant Families In Crisis (SIFIC), which offers help to families who are experiencing the trauma of family separation, violence, persecution, financial loss, or medical crises.
