In the wake of the recent activity by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Athens, WUGA reached out to Congressman Andrew Clyde’s office for a response.

The Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition says that they are aware of 11 people having been detained by ICE, since July 16th.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have been seen in Athens, and according to the AIRC, ICE has made multiple arrests, including the arrest of four individuals from one family, which leaves one 11-year-old girl without her parents.

Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition and several other local citizens have posted online about seeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Athens.

In a recent press release, Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock addressed the ongoing partial government shutdown and the resulting lack of TSA workers.
