The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the name of a person injured in an officer-involved shooting in Commerce. According to an updated July 20 media release from the agency, 22-year-old Levi Long is currently in critical condition.

The Commerce Police Department received a call related to a domestic dispute on the evening of Thursday, July 16. A 911 caller reported that Long kicked in the door, and threatened residents in the home before fleeing to another home in the 200 block of Orchard Drive.

Officers say when they arrived at the home and located Long, he was armed with a screwdriver and moved quickly toward them. Long refused to comply with verbal commands to stop and he charged officers with the screwdriver. Two officers shot Long, hitting him several times.

Once the GBI investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review. Commerce Police requested the GBI investigation.
