Wednesday, August 26 is Women’s Equality Day and a recent report by the personal finance website WalletHub studied progress women have made. This year, Georgia ranks near the bottom in the nation. Writer and analyst Chip Lupo.
“Georgia ranked 44th out of the 50 states for women’s equality, in other words, making it the 7th worst state overall,” according to Lupo. “It performed pretty poorly in workplace environment. Education and health numbers are a little stronger, but still below the national average. Its weakest area was in political empowerment.”
Lupo says Georgia and other lower ranking states need improvement in several categories.
“Overall, the findings suggest that in order to achieve greater women’s equality, it requires progress across multiple areas, not just education, [and] employment, it also requires economic security, health, and access to political leadership.”
Hawaii topped the list, while Utah came in at the bottom of the list at number 50. In 2025, the U.S. came in 42nd out of 148 countries according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index.
