Filmmakers and cinema lovers will descend upon downtown Athens this weekend. The Athens Film Festival returns this weekend for its third year.
From Thursday to Sunday, the film festival will screen more than 130 films from across the world. The films, which vary from animated shorts to documentaries to full length features, will be screened across downtown Athens at Cine, the Morton Theatre, The Globe and Flicker Theatre and Bar.
Executive director of the festival Chuck Griffin said there is something for everyone to enjoy this year and gave his tips on making the most of the festival.
“The best way is to either get a full festival pass or an all-access pass,” Griffin said. "That just gets you into all the screenings. Really just look at the schedule because there’s something content-wise for everyone.”
Throughout the weekend, there will be Q&As with filmmakers and networking events to accompany the various screenings. An award show Saturday night with awards given to some of the top films will cap off the weekend’s celebration of cinema and art.
“I always thought that if we could show an international filmmaker, filmmaker from anywhere in the world, how we celebrate art, it’s a success for us,” Griffin said.
