As Gov. Kemp approaches his final months in office, he says he’s continuing to advocate for Georgians.
In response to what is being referred to as global market volatility, Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and suspended Georgia's motor fuel excise tax for 30 days.
The suspension took effect at 12:01am on September 29 and will run through October 29th, 2026. The current fuel excise tax is about 33 cents per gallon of gasoline and around 37 cents per gallon of diesel.
Kemp’s executive order will also suspend state weight limits on commercial vehicles which is expected to reduce everyday grocery costs in the state, according to a recent press release from the Governor's office.
Governor Kemp said that over the years, he and the members of the General Assembly have provided billions of dollars of relief to Georgians and the state’s small businesses and that’s why he’s taking action during this time.
Kemp will have served as the Governor of Georgia for two complete terms come November. The Athens native helped Georgia keep its status as Area Development Magazine's number 1 state for business.
