A University of Georgia student fell from the eighth floor of an apartment building Saturday.
Athens-Clarke County police said 21-year-old Kristin Sargent was dancing on a couch in the Rambler Athens Apartments before she fell through an open window to the pool deck. When police arrived around 7:30 Saturday night, Sargent was on the ground near the pool which is on the second floor of the apartment building. According to the police report, Sargent hit a metal bench as she fell. There was a cushion with blood on it near the bench.
Police said she was alert and conscious following the fall and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her father, Richard Sargent, told WSB-TV that Sargent broke several bones and is recovering in the intensive care unit.
Rambler Apartments sent an email to residents Sunday with a reminder to not tamper with safety limiters, which are equipped on the windows throughout the property. They also offered their best wishes for Sargent and her family.
“Our thoughts are with our resident, and we are wishing for a speedy recovery,” A Rambler Athens representative said in a statement to WUGA News Tuesday. “We are continuing to gather information and review the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
