Commissioners to hear public input on $148 million budget proposal

accgov.com

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are scheduled to meet tomorrow evening for what will be a busy – and likely long – evening for the Mayor and Commission.

In addition to the regular business of their monthly work session – business that includes an update on a proposed arena at the Classic Center – Commissioners will also hear from the public in the first of three public input sessions scheduled in coming weeks as Commissioners ramp up to a June 1 vote on the county's $148 million budget.

That budget is about five percent higher than last year’s, and includes a major expansion of mental health co-responder teams in the ACC Police Department, a two percent raise for many ACC employees, and a continuation of fare free bus service.

The millage rate will remain the same if the current proposal is passed, although some Clarke County property owners could see property tax increases due to increased property values.

The public input meetings about the budget will be held virtually, but comment can be submitted online and through an in-person setup at City Hall. For more information about the FY 22 budget, visit accgov.com/budget.
