William Gaulden Jr. Runs for ACC Coroner, Wants to Increase Transparency with Commission
On May 21st, voters in Athens-Clarke County will decide the winners of several local races. Last week we met with the candidates for County Commission in District 2. Today we turn to the race for County Coroner. William Gaulden Jr. works in funeral services and is running as a Democrat. WUGA’s Martin Matheny sat down with him to discuss his candidacy.

The Athens Free Clinic has been honored with the 2023 Star of Community Achievement award by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

ACC Government to vote on allotting more dollars to Real-Time Crime Center
The Commission will consider putting $500,000 toward the Real-Time Crime Center. The money was donated by QuickTrip Corporation to the Athens-Clarke County Police Foundation.
ACC Planning Commission votes to deny special permit to replace Saye building with parking lot
At their meeting April 3rd, the Athens-Clarke County Planning Commission unanimously voted to deny Athens First United Methodist Church’s application for a special use permit.
ACC commissioners to discuss how to spend $2.5m for homelessness programs
The money can go towards a number of purposes, including creating affordable rental housing, rental assistance, and capacity-building for non-profit groups.
