New Eastside Library breaks ground
A little over a week ago, the new Eastside Library officially broke ground. WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with Amy Miller, Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for the Athens Regional Library System, to talk about the new library and the services it will provide.
The official public celebration for the new library groundbreaking will take place on the east side, at 1 PM on Saturday, August 22nd at Hilsman Middle School. For more updates on the Eastside Library, you can follow the library system’s Instagram @Athens _ Regional _ Libraries.
What is Indoor Football, and why is it coming to Athens?
The Indoor Football League only has 16 teams across the United States—and starting in 2027, Athens will be home to one. To find out why, WUGA’s Havivah Saltz sat down with Rob Keefe, Head Coach and Director of Football Operations for Athens Indoor Football.
The Athens Indoor Football Team’s official name and logo will be unveiled on August 26th at noon in the Classic Center Atrium. The team’s first season will begin in 2027 at Akins Ford Arena. You can get updates online at athensfootball.com or on social media @athensfootball.
Athens Face/Off returns after years of dormancy
Local music scenes are always collaborative projects. Connection is key to organizing practice schedules, booking shows and recording music. Athens is no different, and this year sees the return of Face/Off - an event where collaboration is front and center.
WUGA's Joseph Mazzola takes a look into what Face/Off is, its history, and what to expect at the event.
Face/Off will take place on Saturday, August 15th at the 40 Watt Club. Doors are at 6 p.m., and the new bands will take the stage starting at 7 p.m..
