New wildfires are popping up daily but Governor Kemp is hopeful that they will be contained. Wildfires continue to plague Georgia despite the small respite to the ongoing drought provided by the recent rain.

Governor Brian Kemp toured South Georgia to meet with first responders and area leaders, and to view damage caused by wildfires.

The ongoing wildfires in the southern half of Georgia have resulted in poorer air quality as far north as Gainesville. The air quality in Athens-Clarke County is currently rated as being poor as well.

The AJC reports Charlton County approved a nearly $50 million agreement with ICE in June the expand the Folkston Processing Center from 1,100 detainees to nearly 3,000.
